Job Description

The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for the Design, Engineering, Optimization, and Tier 4 support of the overall data network. This person will collaborate with other team members to define, document, and enforce network standards. Furthermore, the Lead Network Engineer will engage directly with network equipment suppliers to keep abreast of new developments that could benefit the client.

The Sr. Network Engineer may be engaged to assist with special projects as requested by senior leadership pertaining to specific technologies and/or solutions.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or computer science.

    7+ years of networking experience as an individual contributor within a larger service provider Network Architecture or Network Engineering group.

    Advanced knowledge of data network elements such as IP routers, Ethernet switches, firewalls, etc.

    Advanced knowledge of IPv4 & IPv6 network technologies such as IP addressing (CIDR, VLSM, HEX), ARP, etc.

    Advanced knowledge of IP related protocols such as OSPF, BGP-4, MPLS (MP-BGP/RSVP/LDP).

    Advanced knowledge of IP QoS technologies; DiffServ, classification/marking, queuing, and traffic conditioning.

    Strong working knowledge of AAA technologies such as LDAP, RADIUS & TACACS.

    In-depth understanding of protocol analyzers (i.e. Ethereal).

  • Create or augment network design concepts to create a network infrastructure that is resilient, high performing, and scalable. This includes the creation of High-Level Design documents (HLD's) and Low-Level Design documents (LLD's)

    Execute high-level financial analysis to ensure network design concepts are cost-effective in terms of financial guidance provided by Product Development and/or Executive Management

    If required, participate in the execution of a complete vendor evaluation for each network component culminating in a vendor recommendation. This includes the creation of a vendor analysis and decision document. Recommend preferred vendor(s) to implement the network design concepts.

    Initiate requests for information (RFI) or requests for proposal (RFP) and forward to network component vendor(s) to procure technical information and/or pricing information required for said vendor evaluation or high-level bill-of-materials.

    Provide technical guidance to the Product Development group regarding the development of product based technology strategies.

    Keep abreast of all new technologies and remain engaged with all applicable industry standards groups including the IETF, ITU & MEF (to name a few).
